LockBox Version 1.2 for DOS February 8, 1995
This is a little freeware program to store away two pages of
information from prying eyes. It uses a master password to
access data contained in an encrypted data file.
I use it for my seldom used passwords and PIN numbers. It's also
useful for credit card numbers in case of loss and quick
retrieval of card numbers is needed.
LockBox will ask for a password and verification the first time
it is accessed. This one password has to be remembered to get
back in. After entering the password, the first and second page
of data will appear and be blank because not data has yet been
entered. Page through them with an ENTER. The menu will appear
and allow data entry. Data entry can be selected by selecting
the Change contents entry for page one and two. The Display,
Exit and Change Password choices do what they say.
A minimum of three ESC's will save all data and blank the screen
from any point in LockBox just in case prying eyes happen to
appear over your shoulder. This version enters the display mode
on entry after the correct password is inputted. Any keystroke
will moves to page two. I noticed I was using the display mode
much more frequently than changing data and modified LockBox to
come up in display mode to save time and menu keystrokes.
LockBox is freeware rather than crippled shareware. It is only
guaranteed to take up space on your disk. It will use about 3K
of data storage space for LB.CFG and about 41K for the
LOCKBOX.EXE. It works best in a directory on the path so that it
can be called from any area.
Have fun and any suggestions are welcome. LockBox was written
using Borland C++ and the Window Boss library. I hope to rewrite
this program in native OS2 format soon. Version 1.2 is the last
planned upgrade for DOS unless someone sends in a suggestion or
problem report.
Revision 1.1 Revised to work with LOCKBOX.EXE on a A: or B: for
users who would like to keep all information on a
removable disk.
Revision 1.2 Now clears memory of all data on exit. Revised
encryption algorithm. It will require re-entering
data when upgrading from a older version. Be sure
to save old data before upgrading. I use print
screen to make a copy while in display mode.
